We have made some improvements to F-PROT since the release of the previous
version:
* We have added scanning of Java .class files, as well as some Java
heuristics.
* We have added fast unpacking of PKLITE-compressed files.
* F-PROT now scans .VOM and .VXE files by default, as they might be
renamed virus-infected files.
* Scanning of Excel files is now significantly faster than before,
in particular when scanning files across a newtwork.
* We have speeded up the scanning of several slow files, including
the following: SETUPDD.SYS, LOGO.SYS (from Windows '98)
Some problems were found and solved after version 3.02 was released:
* The program would crash if the ZIP/ARJ nesting level was too deep,
for example is, if you had an .ARJ file inside a .ARJ file, inside a .ARJ
file.....for over 170 levels. This is not a realistic problem,
but we actually received one file, containing around 180 levels of
archives.
* There appears to be a problem with the handling of long file names
in Windows '98, resulting in random crashes after running some DOS
programs (like F-PROT) that use long file names. Until Microsoft
fixes this (assuming they bother to do so) we have disabled the
display of long file names when F-PROT is running under Windows '98.
(Note that the problem does not occur under Windows '95).
We have of course added detection/disinfection of more viruses, bringing
the total number of viruses and destructive programs that F-PROT
recognizes to over 22.000
The F-STOPW program is now included in a separate archive, named
F-STOPW.ZIP, but please note that this archive must be unpacked in the
same directory as the one containing the SIGN.DEF and MACRO.DEF files from
the main archive.
