  1. We have made some improvements to F-PROT since the release of the previous
  2. version:
  3.  
  4.     * We have added scanning of Java .class files, as well as some Java
  5.       heuristics.
  6.  
  7.     * We have added fast unpacking of PKLITE-compressed files.
  8.  
  9.     * F-PROT now scans .VOM and .VXE files by default, as they might be
  10.       renamed virus-infected files.
  11.  
  12.     * Scanning of Excel files is now significantly faster than before,
  13.       in particular when scanning files across a newtwork.
  14.  
  15.     * We have speeded up the scanning of several slow files, including
  16.       the following: SETUPDD.SYS, LOGO.SYS (from Windows '98)

  18. Some problems were found and solved after version 3.02 was released:
  19.  
  20.     * The program would crash if the ZIP/ARJ nesting level was too deep,
  21.       for example is, if you had an .ARJ file inside a .ARJ file, inside a .ARJ
  22.       file.....for over 170 levels.  This is not a realistic problem,
  23.       but we actually received one file, containing around 180 levels of
  24.       archives.

  26.     * There appears to be a problem with the handling of long file names
  27.       in Windows '98, resulting in random crashes after running some DOS
  28.       programs (like F-PROT) that use long file names.  Until Microsoft
  29.       fixes this (assuming they bother to do so) we have disabled the
  30.       display of long file names when F-PROT is running under Windows '98.
  31.       (Note that the problem does not occur under Windows '95).

  33. We have of course added detection/disinfection of more viruses, bringing
  34. the total number of viruses and destructive programs that F-PROT
  35. recognizes to over 22.000
  36.  
  37. The F-STOPW program is now included in a separate archive, named
  38. F-STOPW.ZIP, but please note that this archive must be unpacked in the
  39. same directory as the one containing the SIGN.DEF and MACRO.DEF files from
  40. the main archive.
